Summary
- Mopie scans your storage on your phone. Your files, file names, folder paths and file contents never leave your device.
- Mopie never deletes anything automatically. Only files you select are removed, and only after you confirm.
- Mopie reads app sizes and last-used dates for the app manager, never what you do inside an app, and your app list stays on your phone.
- A small amount of data does leave the phone so the app can work: crash reports, usage events, your cleaning total for the free allowance, Pro purchase checks, and your email only if you choose to sign in with Google.
- We do not sell your data, and Mopie has no ads.
1. Data that stays on your device
The following is processed only on your phone and is never sent to us or anyone else:
| Data | Why Mopie uses it |
|---|---|
| Files, file names, folder paths and file contents | To find duplicate files, large files, similar photos, similar videos and blurry photos |
| Photo and video thumbnails | To show you what was found so you can review it |
| Items in your phone's Trash | To show, restore or permanently delete them in the Trash tab |
| Installed app list, app sizes, last-used dates and weekly usage time | To show the app manager (requires Usage access) |
| Device model and storage capacity | To show your storage overview on the Home screen |
| Scan history and scan reminder schedules | To show your History and send reminders |
Mopie does not upload, copy, back up or share any of your files.
2. Data that leaves your device
| Data | Purpose | Linked to you? |
|---|---|---|
| Crash reports – device model, Android version, app version and technical details of the crash | To find and fix bugs | Linked to a random app identifier, not your name or email. No file names or paths are included. |
| Usage events – for example, that a scan finished or that the Pro screen was shown | To understand how the app is used and improve it | Linked to a random app identifier. No file names, paths or contents are included. |
| Cleaning total – the total number of bytes you've cleaned | To apply the free cleaning allowance | Linked to your Mopie account (anonymous unless you sign in) |
| Purchase information – purchase token, product and subscription status from Google Play | To verify and restore Mopie Pro | Linked to your Mopie account |
| Account identifier – a random ID created automatically when you first use the app | To keep your free allowance and Pro status | Anonymous |
| Email address and Google account ID – only if you choose "Sign in with Google" | To keep Pro when you move to a new phone | Linked to you |
Sign-in is optional. If you don't sign in, we never receive your email address.
3. Permissions
| Permission | Why it's needed |
|---|---|
| All files access (Android 11+) or Storage (Android 8–10) | To scan your storage and delete the items you select. Mopie asks before requesting it and explains why. |
| Usage access (optional) | To show app sizes and last-used dates in the app manager. Without it, the app list still appears but sizes are hidden. |
| Notifications | To show scan progress and scan reminders. |
| Internet | Only for Pro purchases, the free allowance, optional sign-in, crash reports and usage events. Scanning and cleaning work offline. |
You can turn off any permission at any time in your phone's Settings.
4. Who we share data with
We share the data described in section 2 only with service providers that help us run Mopie, and only for these purposes:
- Payments: Google Play processes purchases and subscriptions.
- Sign-in: a provider handles the anonymous account and optional Google sign-in.
- App stability and improvement: providers process crash reports and usage events.
- Hosting: a provider stores your account, cleaning total and Pro status.
These providers may use the data only to provide their services to us. We do not sell, rent or trade your data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
We may disclose data if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or ourselves.
5. How long we keep data
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Account, cleaning total and Pro status | Until you delete your account |
| Purchase records | As long as needed to provide Pro and meet legal and tax obligations |
| Crash reports | Up to 90 days |
| Usage events | Event records: 2 months. User-level records: 14 months. Aggregated statistics that cannot identify a device or person may be kept longer. |
Data stored only on your phone is removed when you uninstall Mopie or clear its app data.
6. Deleting your data
You can delete your account and the data linked to it at any time:
- In the app: Settings → Delete account
- On the web: request deletion at fourctech.com/mopie/delete-account or email support@fourctech.com from the address you signed in with
When you delete your account, we remove your account ID and your email address (if you signed in) from our servers straight away. Two things are kept on purpose: your purchase record, unlinked from the deleted account, so that Mopie Pro keeps working and so we can meet legal and tax obligations; and the anonymous cleaning total tied to your app installation, so the free allowance cannot be reset by deleting an account. Neither is linked to your name or email once the account is gone.
Deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription. Cancel it in the Google Play Store under Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
7. Security
Data sent from the app is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Access to our servers is limited to what is needed to run the service. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.
8. Children
Mopie is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@fourctech.com. You may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Our servers and service providers may be located outside your country. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app changes. The effective date at the top shows when it was last updated. Significant changes will be announced in the app or on this page.
